About CCKI

Central Coast Knowledge Institute (CCKI) is a community-centered platform for research, writing, community engagement, and storytelling.

CCKI brings together research, local knowledge, and lived experience to support work that is thoughtful, useful, and rooted in community. The institute was created to help schools, organizations, local partners, and community members better understand the places they serve and the people who make those places what they are.

At its core, CCKI is guided by a simple belief: Communities already carry knowledge that can shape meaningful change.

Why CCKI Exists

Local knowledge belongs at the center.

Communities are often studied, served, or spoken about without being fully listened to. CCKI was created to help bridge that gap by centering the voices, histories, and lived experiences of the people closest to the work.

When local knowledge is paired with research, reflection, and intentional planning, it can become a powerful guide for action. CCKI exists to help turn that knowledge into useful tools, clearer strategies, stronger partnerships, and more grounded public understanding.

How We Work

Turning community knowledge into public understanding and practical action.

Community-centered.

We begin with the people, places, and histories closest to the issue.

Interconnected.

We connect research, community engagement, and storytelling to create a fuller understanding of local issues.

Usable knowledge.

We translate insight into reports, tools, strategies, activities, and public-facing resources.

Rooted in possibility.

We focus not only on challenges, but on the strengths, relationships, and ideas communities already carry.

Rooted in Place

Based in Lompoc, rooted in the Central Coast.

CCKI is based in Lompoc, California, but is rooted in a broader vision for communities across the Central Coast.

This region holds deep histories, diverse communities, and powerful forms of knowledge. It is shaped by education, migration, culture, and generations of community resilience. From the schools and neighborhoods to the local organizations and public institutions, the Central Coast carries stories that deserve to be studied, shared, and honored.

Victor DeAlba, Ph.D.

Founder and Executive Director

CCKI was founded by Dr. Victor DeAlba, a researcher, writer, and community-rooted practitioner from Lompoc, California.

Dr. DeAlba’s work is shaped by his own educational journey from community college to a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, as well as by the communities, schools, mentors, and family experiences that helped make that journey possible. His background includes research on student voice, community knowledge, and the importance of transformative educational spaces.

As the son of immigrant parents and a product of the Central Coast, Dr. DeAlba brings both personal connection and professional training to this work. His approach is grounded in the belief that communities should not be understood only through problems or deficits, but through their strengths, histories, relationships, and possibilities.

Through CCKI, he created a platform for research, community engagement, and storytelling that remains connected to the people and places that shaped him.

Building from what communities already know.
